Short hair cut for a Pomeranian?

My Pomeranian's hair is driving me nuts. We brush him but he's shedding so much you would think there were 20 of these creatures on my house. I don't want to take him to the groomers, but I want to give him a summer haircut. (I have all the equipment.) Any tips or advice on what I can do with this poofball?
Pics appreciated.

I was getting my Chihuahua's nails clipped yesterday at the groomer, and I saw a pomeranian with a Lion's Cut! He was the cutest thing I ever saw!
Plus, the lady told me that the dog would have the bulk of the hair back by winter. I know it looks drastic, but it would really cut down on the hair and all those necks would turn to look at your "new" little critter!
There are degrees of this cut that you can do. The link below shows you how to!

you may try this, we tried it on my pomeranian/fox and it was adorable and really helped with the shedding. what might also help is asking your vet and my trick to my puppy is before showering him I comb his coat before bathing him to let the loose hair come off. :)

actually ppl should NEVER sahve a double coated dog ! most proper dog groomers wont' and that fact is becasue double coated dogs, their fur, regulate heat in the winter and cool them off in the summer ! when you shave a pom or any other double coated dog, they can actually reslut in heat stroke ! and their fur never grows back as pretty or thick !

From a groomers point of a view....the lion or fox cut is cute & fun to do. What a lot of people don't realize is that when you cut down into that undercoat, it often does not grow back the same. Some dogs grow in patchy, some grow extra thick undercoat which gives an almost matted look later, as well as takes away from that soft coat they used to have. Some dogs grow out okay, while most don't. If you plan to keep the dog trimmed that way always, great...but don't expect in a few months you'll have that same gorgeous pom coat again. Remember, dogs have their coat for a reason - to protect their skin for irriation such as sun & bugs in the grass. Lighter dogs can easily get sun burnt. Also, by cutting into that undercoat, you've just ruined that dogs means of heating & cooling itself. You think less hair = cooler....wrong! Even after the coat grows back, the insulation is gone & cannot heat & cool the dog anymore. If this is an indoor dog (which I feel all dogs should be!) there shouldn't be much of an issue.

The furminator package is a GREAT solution I use a lot because it reduces up to 90% of shedding. People usually get poms for that cute, fluffy coat...so if shedding is the problem, this is the best way to go.

I'm certainly not against pom clips, as I do them often, but I feel the owner should be educated on the pros & cons, as well as making them aware of other options before shaving. If having a dog shaved is the only way you can/will keep your dog indoors, then it's an excellent alternative. They will still shed, but they shed tiny hairs which are far less noticeable --- Hope this helps someone :)

put your pom on your lap and wait til he/she calms down pick up the scissors try not to let him/her see them as the sharpness can give them a fright annd then start to quietly snip as the sound scares them as well but the best option would be to take him/her to the groomers so as not to make a mess of his/her hair once your done ive him/her a bath to get rid of all of the exess hair or give him/her a quick blow dry also to get rid of the excess hair
hope this helps
abit !!!!

Give her a nice trim. I've seen Pom's with a Lion cut and didn't really think it was a good look. We use normal clippers and just buzz away but for a really good look it's off to the groomers for her. Remember no matter how badly you goof it up it the hair will grow back and the other dogs won't tease him. The primary reason I answered this question was so I could post a picture of my Pomeranian. This picture is my dog after a professional grooming.

I understand what you are saying. We have a Pomeranian and her fur tends to grow in crazy ways. Since it does not flow smoothly and grows only to a certain length, growing it out is not an option and we tend to keep her fur short. She looks like a mini chow, but it's a cleaner alternative to fur balls all over the house. :)
Friends of ours have a orange Pomeranian and keep his fur short with a lion cut around his head. That's a very cute way to go.
I would recommend taking your Pomi to an experienced and reputable groomer in your area (your vet may be able to help you locate one, and many pet supply stores have a separate department for grooming or may be able to refer you to a groomer as well) and just discussing some options and ideas on what type of haircut would fit your dog best. Unless you actually have some experience cutting hair (on dogs) I would not recommend doing it yourself. I've tried it and it looks alot easier than it truly is. In the end my poor puppy had to spend almost 2 months with a horrible cut until her fur grew back enough to get a decent haircut.

That's a very cute haircut. Does it really help with the shedding though?

Sorry for the late reply. ;) For ours it kept the fuzzies to a minimum. Unless you have a Pomer-poo (mix between Pomeranian and Poodle), which is bred to not shed, most Pomeranians will still lose some hair after haircuts and especially between seasons. But after shorter haircuts you will likely not find as many enormous furballs around your house.
