I prefer Target over WalMart for a number of reasons. it is a bit more upscale, cleaner and the goods they carry appear to me to be of higher quality. The prices seem to be very good as well. The advertising campaign is slick and enjoyable. The only time I use Walmart is when I am forced to go at after 10 o'clock to one of their 24-hour stores. Maybe that will change now that WalMart is quietly redesigning some of their stores to appear more upscale, with new signage and wider aisles. They have also opened a supermercado for the Hispanic market in Houston, for one. One other thing, a new Target was built in our neighborhood in the last two years, and it has never disappointed me due to service and cleanliness.
I found this business story on a WalMart makeover in PA.
"At the core of the renovations is a focus on aesthetics. The merchandise is being displayed in a cleaner, more open layout that is easier to navigate. Lower-profile shelving also attempts to contribute to improving the shopping experience.
Wal-Mart leaders are looking to complete overhauls on more than 500 of their 4,100 stores nationwide this year, with 80 percent of the chain being converted within five years, said Kurt Knaus, a spokesman for Arkansas-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. "

Definitely Target over Walmart, all the way, in our area.
The lights are too eery LCD bright for me at Walmart. Because of this, the stores in our area seem creepy with a blue-white light ambiance.
I rarely go there, unless they have a Muppet item not available elsewhere (seriously!)
Target is great for pricing, sales, clean stores and brand name items carried.
The prices and selection are great on sporting goods, toys, shampoo, clothes, craft items, greeting cards, wrapping paper, picture frames, small appliances and towels!
The quality is good, usually.
House brands of clothing can be substandard sometimes, though. (they shrink too much). That is the only thing I've seen wrong with our area Target stores.
Clearance items are great! Clerks are friendly and attentive at Target.

With that in Mind I prefer Target just because it is an easier shopping experience with a little nicer merchandise, and a little better area to eat.

Target is just awesome. It's cleaner, better selection and I think it is better quality on some of the home products, ect. "I walked into Target, but I missed. There is a way stores are designed, and Wal-Mart functions on the concept of making you walk by stuff you don’t want to get to what you originally came in for, grocery stores often operate this way, you cant just go in and get what you want without passing items that you don’t want but are enticed to buy because of the display or price. With Target they generally have a similar layout in most stores (at least the ones I have been in) and so it makes it easier for you to find what you want. Often Wal-Mart will have something that looks to be very low priced such as socks but when you look at the actual product even if it is labeled Hanes, it will be a an inferior version to what Target is selling With that in Mind I prefer Target just because it is an easier shopping experience with a little nicer merchandise, and a little better area to eat.
