It has been a while...but for me it would be price, washability, and comfort.
Comfort may seem an odd requirement...but when my daughter was 5 she desperately wanted a Cinderella costume, and a complete theme party. I obliged-- we had a castle cake, her baby brother dressed up as a mouse, her older sister as a fairy godmother- the works. Ten minutes before the guests arrived, I found that the princess had abandoned her Cinderella dress (with the expensive Disney Store price tag) for street clothes. "It itched", she said. So, my #1 piece of advice would be to make sure its comfortable enough that she will wear it.
