Three enhancements.
Make the outside box utterly unlike a book. Say twice as long as it is wide.
Put the book at one end of the box so it is very heavy on one end and very light on the other. ( This is really confusing to most guessers. )
Toss in a handful of shell of elbow macaroni in the empty side so it will rattle and make a ssshhing sound when the box is tilted.
Be sure you are present when it is opened.
Having only a clue in the original box is a masterpiece. I have never seen that done.

What are cool, funny ways for me to give a Christmas present?
The present is a book. I was thinking of getting a very large box, put newspaper paper in it, and hide a smaller box inside, which would contain a Bible, a compass, and something to read Genesis 13:14. In Gen 13:14, it says, "Lift up your eyes and look north". The person would go north, and the present would be somewhere hidden.
