Buy a photo album and some stickers from the craft store that say family, Dad and such. Pick up a package of different colored cardstock in the scrapbooking aisle of your local craft store and make him a family scrapbook album. Put in photos of your Dad with everyone in your family from different years when you were little to now. You can write a Dad poem in there by finding one on the internet if you are not poetic. He will love this gift more than anything else because it is given from the heart and nothing is more important than his life with his family.

Or if you want him just to be around you and not leave town, you can book him at a very nice local resort or hotel with lots of activities going on (of course, all expenses paid) for how many days, it is also a welcome retreat.

Or instead of just giving a gift certificate, how about inviting his Euchre buddies to all go out to lunch with him and the GC pays for a meal for them all together?
Another choice might be some recordings of grandchildren singing songs for him.
Happy Holidays to you and your dad.

Or else, last year, I bought for my dad a professional corkscrew, and my sister and I thought of buying a pocket vineyard.
Fifteen years ago, my dad was 45 and my sister created a shelf with old wood and placed 45 bottles of different beers (we're Belgians and our country produces 680+ sorts of beers so we had a huge range to choose from, lol). It was actually original and he had a lot of please, kept the shelf and drank the beers ;)
Another idea would be to make a gift basket with things he really likes: whether candies and chocolate or Italian or Spanish (or any other) foods, drinks, etc. Or even with Spa products! Baskets are easy to make as you can even use and decorate a shoe box and place all the gifts into it.
The possibilities are endless of course.

or,.. you could create a lightpoem with his favourite words on it. You basically create a poem or use words your Dad's known to say all the time that make you chcukle and Shapeway will bend it into a cylinder form around a candle. So when ever he lights up the candle his words (or yours) will appear all around him. It's pretty easy to do: £60

Can you give me some unique Christmas gift ideas for my dad?
He's retired, mid-70's, doesn't really have any hobbies except playing Euchre (card game) with his buddies, has a tiny apartment w/o room for anything large, doesn't need clothing, not an outdoorsman or sports fan. We usually end up giving him a gift certificate but this year we'd like to do something different. Any suggestions?

I would give him a tour package(all expenses paid trip) to a very nice destination which he likes ( I think you will be the one to have an idea where to), where he can relax and enjoy his time alone or accompanied. This will be a welcome change from the normal routine that he has at the moment. Or if you want him just to be around you and not leave town, you can book him at a very nice local resort or hotel with lots of activities going on (of course, all expenses paid) for how many days, it is also a welcome retreat.

The activities that go one at our local hotel probably have to do with squashing bedbugs and roaches! I'd have to send him out of town, but thanks for the suggestion.

A digital picture frame with scanned photos from years gone by is a good memory type gift that doesnt take up a lot of space. Or instead of just giving a gift certificate, how about inviting his Euchre buddies to all go out to lunch with him and the GC pays for a meal for them all together?
Another choice might be some recordings of grandchildren singing songs for him.

It all depends on what your daddy likes. For instance, mine appreciates drinking a good glass red wine so I would choose whether a personalized bottle of wine (I would take an existing GREAT wine, carefully remove the label from the bottle, scan to the computer and using Photoshop, I would customize the label but will keep the name and castle intact, print and glue on the good wine I bought). Or else, last year, I bought for my dad a professional corkscrew, and my sister and I thought of buying a pocket vineyard.

How about a flattened wine platter, sounds funny, but you can send in his favourite wine bottle (empty ofcourse) and Kevin (the artist) will melt it down and add the label to it - to form a unique one of a kind serving platter for nibbles: $38 http://ticatoca.com/view.php?product=88
