Bailout Booth: Clever or cheesy (or both?)

This site, Bailout Booth, combines the aspects of YouTube, Craigslist, and your local classified ads, in one Web site. You submit videos to promote products, services or even yourself.

I think the concept is intriguing, but the execution is on the cheesy side. They just launched today so they have no content yet.

Do you think that a concept like this can work? Or is it too cheesy?

I would say it's clever and cheesy. It's not like it hasn't been done before. There were a few video classified sites that came out in 2007 and 2008, and did the same thing as bailout booth, but they are no longer up. See the link in the source. I think most people don't want to take the time to make a video of themselves to sell something, or most people don't care about a video to sell something online.

Definitely the concept is intriguing, but I don't know how many people are going to pay to sell something on a site like Bailout Booth.

Hi, I would partially disagree with the not wanting to make the video of themselves.
I had the idea and co-founded spynbuy.com.We were reveiwed favorably by the Wall Street journal and had over 3,000 members before I sold my interest due to a marketing dispute with the other founders.
At one time we had over 100 million in for sale items that had videos.
Real Estate , classic cars and even yachts and planes.
Video works very well for high end products for sale.
The focus needs to be on the product not the person in the video.
Anyway it looks like the new marketing team at spynbuy tanked the site by focusing on putting low end t-shirts sales up.

Getting recognized. You get the chance to create your own advertising, for a yearly fee and bailout booth promotes the ad. I think this service could become big because talent is distributed among the masses and by gathering creative talent and works the volume of content will create momentum for the company. Suppose, you created an 30 second advertisement that a million people view, your potential reaching a new market. For example, American Idol exposed local talent too millions of viewers and create a new real TV market. As long as bailout booth provides incentives for people to participate, it should grow in popularity.

Bailout Booth helps the individuals sale merchandise. The idea is simple. Sale the merdanise you have around your home, through an video ad.

The average person writes the advertising script, produces and edits their video, and publishes on bailout booth. The ads can be informative, funny, or serious.

Why didn't Bailout Booth run a 30 second Super bowl AD like Godaddy when it went public?

Bailout Booth needs visiblity to work.

Bailout bill pays for the advertisement

Bailout Booth seems like a clever idea. YouTube and Craigslist are sites I use often so the idea of combining the two seems like something that could work. However, I agree with you that the execution of the idea is cheesy (Bailout Bill!?). Also, I for one wouldn't spend $9.95 for the service (at least not until it picks up traffic, which I'm guessing is going to be more than a month).

CHEESY!!!! Who in their right mind will pay $2.99 a day to sell something they can post for free elsewhere???? Good Luck "Bailout Bill" better save some of that money for yourself because your gonna be needing it...
