A book case or shelves in general are great for anything. My book case and shelves are stored with books, cds, picture frames and just about anything else to keep things off the floor. I'm sure something like that would help keep a sewing room organized. Everything is in plain sight so you can see it without having to dig through drawers...

If that seems like it'd look too cluttered for you, there are those filing cabinet type things that have clear drawers. You can find them at almost any office supply store... like this one.

And you can find more things like it here:

All relatively cheap yet decent and very useful.

I love any clear organizer. I saw some like these at the container store that were modular so you could build sets of drawers. Plus the have the one above in white.

What do you use as a pin cushion? My grandmother gave me a little plush tomatoe. My mom uses one too. I want to get more so I can organize my needles by size.

When I'm hand-sewing I still use my original tomato pin cushion from high school. It has the little strawberry with emery in it to sharpen the needles and pins.

When I'm on the machine, I use a wrist band style that has felted wool.

A thread rack. It is a layered rack with thin knobs (about 100) for each spool. Hangs on a wall. Then you can see ALL your thread at one time. I keep bobbins on the bottom knobs.

The one from Jo Ann's Fabric holds quite a few. And look for a 40% off coupon in the Sunday papers.

I think I need to switch my thread to a rack. I started with a thread case and it filled up so quickly I had to get another. Now I have to open multiple containers to find what I'm looking for.

I have a pegboard. The kind you put in your workshop and you put different things on it to hang things off of. I have my laptop on it for my embroidery, then I have pegs to hold my scissors, also have two thread racks hanging off of them, and store types of pegs to hold my extra needles.

I did see a cool pegboard set up earlier today when I was researching some sewing stuff. It is definitely inspirational to see a picture like this.
