What is a good/cheap phone service in which incomming calls are only connected to voice mail?
My application: I'm starting a business that only requires customers to hear a message and, perhaps, leave a message on the voice mail. I don't need to answer the phone directly.
Solutions via VOIP or other internet connections are acceptable.

I love magicjack. It is really cheap. 20 dollars per year. You hook the think to your computer, and hook a phone to the thing. If people call you and your computer is not on, or you don't want to take the call, you don't. It's that easy.
www.magicjack.com Not mention it's a really good phone service otherwise. I only use it and cell phones. Why have a home phone that costs more than 20 dollars a year when you don't have to?

I've ordered the magicjack, but will wait to try it before selecting the best answer.

It's as good as advertised if you ask me. I get a little fuzziness on some local calls, but other than that, all long distance and everything is free for 20 bucks a year. you can't beat it. i had a little trouble setting it up, but they have a chat service for support online. good luck with it. you'll definitely think it's worth it

I use http://www.phonetag.com which transcribes every voicemail and sends it to you with an mp3 file attached.
it is brilliant... you can forward any number there. So, i would find a cheap phone service and forward it there.

I would suggest GrandCentral.com. It's normally used as a central number that can forward to any other numbers that you provide, but you could set it up to go directly to voicemail. Voicemails can be heard on the site, over the phone, or sent to you via email.
It has loads of other features, such as different voicemail outgoing messages depending on who's calling, or selectively blocking certain numbers, etc.
They've been acquired by Google, so they'll be around for a while.
It's currently a free service, though they'll probably have for-pay features in the future.

grandcentral while being very good is not at this time accepting new users
skype in service. sign up for the local calling plan and get 50% descount on a new incoming number.
myofficephonesystem.com have features that may be suitable for your office phone system. They offer a very cost effective plan. They can even unify your communication system. Using their desktop application you will easily know the incoming faxes, voice mails and phone calls in just a click of the mouse.
