I really like it, it's definitely super fast searching, the way Google founders envisioned this search engine to be. I think that search without pictures is great, but I love the pictures, so I miss typing in Mickey Mouse and getting a result showing a picture of Mickey.
I would like to call it a lightning bolt search engine, but I've seen other search engines that are just as quick, such as DuckDuckGo that is built with Perl and Cuil is also pretty fast as it works on another technology as well.
Do I really notice or care for the difference?
I would say it's insignificant when you're on a high speed Internet connection. For instance, my search for Mickey Mouse was (0.09 seconds) on Cafeine and (0.18 seconds) on regular Google. Does it make a difference, not really, yet it definitely felt like a lightning bolt faster.
Since they said it was faster, I think we psychologically feel that it's faster, just because they say it's faster.

Can I really notice the difference between search results that appear in 0.22 seconds versus 0.40 seconds? Probably not.
Did it feel faster? Actually, yes.
Was I influenced by the fact that the press release SAID it was faster? Probably.
In all of my searches, Caffeine searched more results (by about 5%) and did provide slightly different results (though the top result was always the same). In most cases the results were faster, but in one case, it actually took longer.
What will I do with the extra 1-5 seconds a day I am going to have when this is released?

The thing is, this new Google is also supposed five you more relevant results and more of a live search. It's a pretty good comeback for Google after Bing is slowly taking it down.

im on a o/c i7 @3.2 ghz so it would seem that the speed increase on googles side is only .04-.05 but if you think about hte number of searches they do a day it will save them tons of time and make them able to use the cpu power for other stuff.

Have you tried Google's "caffeine" yet?
Google's new upgrade (boost of "caffeine" ) is said to speed up search results and provide more accurate results. Have you tried it yet? What do you think?

I tried a few searches this morning. Somehow this feels like a physchological experiment: Can I really notice the difference between search results that appear in 0.22 seconds versus 0.40 seconds? Probably not.
Did it feel faster? Actually, yes.

It's somewhat faster. I receive my search results in 0.12 seconds compared to the regular Google of 0.25 seconds. It's a little more than double the speed. The thing is, this new Google is also supposed five you more relevant results and more of a live search. It's a pretty good comeback for Google after Bing is slowly taking it down.
