As far as I know there is no public list of the most visited pages. However, sometimes staff will put up a thread with a list of high traffic pages that are doing well. We can then think of related pages that might pull traffic and be profitable.

Here are some examples:
BREAKING! PAGE MANAGER to make M$2,000 a year off of ONE PAGE!!!
Want to see the top October Pages from 2008? Of course you do!
What were the top Mahalo pages of November, 2008? Find out here!
High-paying Gift Card pages.

Those are a few... I'm sure there have been others, but as time goes on and we get more pages in the system, @jasoncalacanis is making sure that we know what is earning... then we can all have the information we need to get a piece of that pie! =)

Edit!!

Even though I didn't know of one, I asked... and was told that this link will take you to the Page Leaderboard. However, I was told it might not be 100% accurate and you need to add a zero (0) to the end, so 11,620 is actually 116,200.

If you look under "All Time" it looks like after it hits 1000, it loses track.

But still should help to know what pulls.

Thanks to @jeffhoard for the info!

Ok, I'll give answers across the board for these... I haven't looked at your pages, so I don't know how many or where current ads are on your pages, Ghanan. =)

Don't think anything I say is a correction for you, ok?

OK.

Number of ads is going to be determined by how long your page is. It achieves nothing to just have a page filled with ads. We want the quality of pages on Mahalo to be at a certain level so that they will come back. Longevity will make your pages earn over time. Although you might get clickthroughs for a page with more ads than content, it won't get them coming back to Mahalo as a resource, which is what we ultimately want.

I will have one ad block in the left column on each page unless it is longer than the average. If I have the content to support it, a second ad block should be fine.

For the right column, 2-3 for a standard page... again depending on the content. If I have a lot of text content added, I will add another block.

Placement:
Left column... directly under the fast facts.
Right column... "above the fold" as high as possible depending on what your content is. If you have a video, it should be the top item on the right, with the ad block directly under it. Links or News could be the top item depending on the subject, and sometimes, I put the ad at the top, but it would have to have really decent ads for your page. You don't just want to have the ads at the top for the sake of them being there.

Moving the ad blocks can be tricky, since we can't actually control them directly. You have to instead move everything that is around them to get them in place... and pinned items affect where other items go. If things are jumping all over when you don't mean for them to, unpin everything in that column before moving things, then re-pin after they are in place.

How it affects revenue... where they are is important. You want people to see them. Putting them near text where they will be reading or under or above a video where they will be watching can help get more clicks.

I always try to put a text block next to ad blocks... either under, over, or both. I have noticed it directly relates to how relevant the ads are. I've seen pages with no decent ads suddenly have very targeted ads after I put text around them that contained the keywords I was targeting.

Targeted ads means more clicks! =)

Make sure no matter how many ad blocks you have that they are spaced out... two or three content blocks should be between the ads... if you don't have enough content to do that you have too many ads. Ask a staff member to delete the extra ads or add more content.

And for visual layout, don't put all your video/image blocks together... break them up with your text blocks. Even twitter blocks have avatar icons... that affects how the page looks.

This is all from my personal experience... others might have had different results. =)

Some of my pages, do not appear on Google search results even if I type in the name of my page and Mahalo to see if it comes up. My Death page has been online for quite some time now and I haven't seen it on Google search results even though there is only one entry about Death; wikipedia.

Another question I have is about ads. Why not make the blue ads that appear within the links section, white? I'm sure it would generate more clicks. I would also add link ads, those small ones that seem to be just like links and not ads.

Hi @psynopsis,

Getting your page indexed is pretty easy. You just need an incoming link from a page that Google crawls.

Add categories to your page. That should do it. It might even be found first by the link you put in this answer.

The ads are a bit tricky. There is not a lot of control over them. Mahalo is seen as different by Google and can't handle ads the same way some site owners might be used to.

A couple of notes about your page...

You can take this for what you think it is worth... =)

You don't have a Related Mahalo Pages section in the left column. You really need one. Mahalo wants one there and it will help your page in Google anyway. Google likes to see that your page is part of a bigger whole. So link to some great pages on Mahalo that relate to yours.

And your guide note is long enough that you could break it up a bit. You could break out the following sections if you wanted to:
Causes of Death
Views About Death
Ways to Deal With Death
Types of Death

then just move the paragraphs that correspond to those topics into their own sections. The last one might need another sentence or two.

If you do that, then move the Fast Facts up under the guide note, then an ad block, then a couple of sections then another ad block then the rest.

Gives you some great keyword phrases to help pull some different ads in.

And if you can find a video that discusses any of those aspects of death, put it at the top right with a great title and description. Add a comment if you have something else decent to say about it.

Then just keep making consistent little changes to the page over time to move it up the index.

oh, just realized I didn't address the links vs images issue for the ads.

the ads come from whatever the advertisers are paying for right now, but if they are available, you can get link ads instead of images SOMETIMES by making sure the ad blocks are next to text with your keywords instead of a block of images, videos or amazon products. For instance, your death page has all link ads and they all have a text related block either above or below them.

@smartweb, Those are really good tips! I don't know why I hadn't thought of adding those things before. Adding a video, is something I had definitely not thought about. Thank you! :D

Sorry, if I responded a little late to your answer. But my internet has been out for a few days, and possibly for the next few days. I have been rendered to using public internet :(
