Google Trends is a good start.
If you want to see some actual numbers of what people are looking for check Google's Adwords Tool:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
I use it about a good hour a day in my day job =)
Its not so much of a trend, but up to recent monthly data, it gives you some actual volume numbers, so I find it more useful for my needs. The Broad Match is much larger and general, so click down to an Exact Match to really see a particular set of terms.
Just remember, as a general SEO hint - keep your Titles nice and concise to your subject. Target what you want THAT page to be about. People tend to make the mistake and start throwing related terms that quickly get away from the subject and thin you out for your chance to get a strong hit with your page Title.
Hope this helps!

Hi @allison h.

That's a smart idea to build your own "how to" page. I noticed that almost all the top earning pages are "how to" pages. But there must be a "how to" page that hasn't been made yet

Did you try Google Insights for Search. It's a good way to find new search trends.

According to this page there are a lot of people searching for how to build a bottle rocket or a bathouse.

And take a good look at whats currently hot in the news. Here's a couple of suggestions that might work

* How do I get information about Iran?
* How do create a proxy server (to help people in Iran)?
* How do I create my Facebook vanity url?
* How do I set up Opera Unite?
* How do I jailbreak the new iPhone?

I saw you over at the site you writing for. Do you make any money? it looked like less than 10 bucks per article, seemed like a lot of work for the money. Does titling pay any better?
