Modern stories or movies where someone becomes a werewolf by some method other than being bit?

I'm working on an article about how to become a werewolf and am curious about some of the modern stories. I'm not a huge sci-fi reader and know there are a lot of books I may not be familiar with.

Does anyone know of stories or movies where the person became a werewolf other than being bitten? For example, in Teen Wolf, Michael J. Fox inherits it from his father.

Any help would be appreciated.

The movie Blood and Chocolate.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_and_Chocolate_(film)
This movie discusses the idea of loup-garou / werewolf bloodlines and has a rather interesting take on loup-garou history.

Also if you follow the howling series it also covers aspects of being born a loup-garou.

Wolfen (more of a native american spin)
NYPD Detective Dewey Wilson (Finney) is assigned to solve a bizarre set of violent murders in which it appears the victims were killed by animals. In his investigation, Wilson learns of an Indian legend about wolf spirits, and that there may be predatory shapeshifters living in the vicinity.

I found this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118137/plotsummary
"A team of archaeologists with unplaceable accents unearth a skeleton at a dig in an Arizona quarry. The Native Americans on the dig instantly recognize it as the remains of a werewolf, so the team leaders immediately take it to their lab and stare at it. Natalie, one of the team members, thinks it's absolutely fascinating, but Yuri siezes on greater ambitions when one of the dig assistants, who injured themself on the remains, becomes infected and turns into a werewolf in full view of hospital personnel."

Hope that helps! :)

Suppose someone became a werewolf because of a blood transfusion. Who gave the blood? Will it be possible to trace them, or was it a homeless person? What happened when an accident occurred at night and another transfusion was given in an emergency operation on the night of the full moon?
Who broke into the blood bank? Can a test be created to test for the blood of werewolves? Was giving the blood a deliberate act of...?"

The twilight series about vampires actually has something in it about werewolves, although not your "usual" kind. As mentioned in the last book of the series, it is actually slightly different from the werewolves of legend. This is part of that tribe's mythology that the wolves are actually wolf spirits which protect the tribe in times of need (when vampires are around).

The movie Skinwalkers (http://www.skinwalkers.com/) mentions that this is an inherited ability/curse/gift rather than an infectious one.

http://ilovewerewolves.com/blog/evil-possessions-cause-werewolves-to-transform/
This is an article which takes being infected by a werewolf not as an infectious bite, but as demonic possession.

http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/criminal_mind/psychology/werewolf_killers/10.html
Here is an interesting article on how the werewolf was used by the church.

http://members.tripod.com/alam25/exp.htm
This actually brings up some of the explainations of werewolves:
"One branch of modern physicians refers lycanthropes as suffering from any of the five conditions; Rabies, Porphyria, Hypertrichosis, Body Image Distortion and psychological illness."

In the Terry Prachett books werewolves are a race and the trait is inherited. The main werewolf character is one of the good guys, specifically a lady policewoman. (It comes in handy!)
Looking at these other fine answers covering movies that I'm certainly glad I never saw, it seems there are three basic ways to become a werewolf.
1. Genetic: you inherit being a werewolf.
2. Infectious disease: you are bitten by a werewolf, encounter the infectious agent through a dirty wound, or possibly get an unlucky blood transfusion.
3. Magic: you are cursed, perhaps by ritual or perhaps by a powerful witch etc.
On the other hand, I see no examples yet of manufactured werewolves from some sort of Frankenstein machine, or radiation in Outer Space, or a diligent training program of any sort.
I would think in real life the best bet would be genetic engineering, probably mixing plenty of genes at fertilization rather than a few genes later. Perhaps I should apply for a grant?
