Why is the number 13 important on the first flag?

Does the number 13 represent the 13 colonies or does it have another Masonic meaning?

According to US History.org the flag was created, after the revolutionary war, with 13 stars on a field of blue to represent the new union, like a constellation in the sky. According to WikiAnswers the 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies.

Truth or Fiction.com also dispels the rumors that 13 stands for anything except the colonies.

According to the research that I conducted, the number is not symbolic of anything to Masons. See this Freemason site, for an explaination. It appears that it is the antimasons that say it is significant. Please watch the video attached. They attribute various meanings to 13. The path of Ra, rebirth, regeneration, death, sacred union, etc. I did not find any specific meaning as your question implies.
