Wangari Muta Maathai (2004):
Maathai stood up courageously against the former oppressive regime in Kenya. Her unique forms of action have contributed to drawing attention to political oppression - nationally and internationally. She has served as inspiration for many in the fight for democratic rights and has especially encouraged women to better their situation.
Wangari Maathai was the first woman from Africa to be honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize. She represents an example and a source of inspiration for everyone in Africa fighting for sustainable development, democracy and peace.

Marie Skyodowska Curie, as the only woman to have won the Nobel Prize twice and in her time had a struggle to get educated even having to move. In 1903 received it for discovering radioactivity and in 1911 won it for chemistry. For a woman being born in the 1800's struggle with education and the man, you know how hard this must have been for her to do let alone get accepted.
To point out the obvious, she didn't win the Peace Prize for chemistry.
