This is a subjective question. For many, Chichen-Itza pyramids, and specially the Pyramid of Kukulkan, is regarded as the most beautiful in Mexico. It is representative of the late classic period, the fall of the Mayan. But the absence of Maya glyphs in the site and the architectural influence of the Toltecs suggest the site is not Maya at all.

Whereas the pyramids of Las Chimeneas, like the great Pyramid of the Niches in Tajín, Veracruz, which represents the early classic period, is viewed as a unique and intricate little pyramid built by either the Totonacs or the Huastecs, two Toltec cultures.

In both cases, El Tajín site and the Maya culture of Chichen-Itza (despite the fact that they represent two different periods) flourished at the same time. There is evidence that El Tajín and Maya builders had a trade relationship. In addition, the two pyramids both reflect a great astronomical knowledge applied to architecture on a religious surrounding for the strictly political goal of controlling the citizens.
