This is the famous Pyramid of the Niches, also named Building 1.
The temple towers of Veracruz, Mexico, are located in El Tajín archeological site 240 miles away from this province capital. Tajín is a Totonac word meaning "Place of Thunder". The site did not receive as much visitors as Palenque or Chichen-Itza, but things are changing lately. It is a quiet place where you can still feel alone without the noisy tourism present in other places.
Their principal buildings are the Plaza Arroyo Group, the Ball Courts, the Pyramid of Niches, the Tajín Chico group, the Building of Columns and the Great Xicalcoliuhqui.
The Pyramid of Niches is the most important building in the complex is made of 7 stories sections and 365 niches which are representative of the days of the calendar year.

Chichen-Itza in the other side is one of the largest archeological sites in Mexico and one of the most visited by tourists. Perhaps the most famous building in Chichen-Itza is the Kukulkan Pyramid also known as "El Castillo" (the Castle) quite possible the most beautiful ancient building in Central America.
It shares a common characteristic with the Pyramid of the Niches in Tajín: the four stairways leading up to the central platform each have 91 steps, making a total of 364; added to the central platform this equals the 365 days of the solar year.
