----quote----
The Trail of Tears was the relocation and movement of Native Americans in the United States from their homelands to Indian Territory (present day Oklahoma) in the Western United States. The phrase originated from a description of the removal of the Choctaw Nation in 1831.1 Many Native Americans suffered from exposure, disease, and starvation while en route to their destinations, and many died, including 4,000 of the 15,000 relocated Cherokee.2

information quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trail_of_tears

The reason for the removal is simple the European Americans wanted the Indian's land for their economic purposes "By 1837, 46,000 Native Americans from these southeastern nations had been removed from their homelands thereby opening 25 million acres for settlement by European Americans."
This is the removal of the indigenous people of America from off their own lands to an Indian territory. This was done by President Andrew Jackson in the year 1831 and an act was pass for this "Indian Removal Act of 1830". The removal involved the "Five Civilized Tribes" Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee-Creek, and Seminole.

I think these two sounds by the legendary reggae singer Bob Marley best describes the situation.
