Interestingly enough (to me) is that as powerful as they were, the Egyptians never ventured much outside of the range of the Nile. The went upstream into Namibia, but otherwise, not as much sailing around the Mediteranian as one would probably expect.
Evidently they were one of those who felt that the grass was *not* greener on the other side of the hill... they liked the Nile, they knew that's where all their food came from, and their biggest problem was keeping invaders out.
Consequently, they built big river-rafts to go up and down the Nile, but nothing very ocean-worthy.

Have any of these Egyptian patterns been found in North America or Central America?
I know this is off topic, but LDS looking for evidence of at least some of the ten lost tribes having made it to the americas may not be keeping up on the Human Genome Project results, one of which is that there's a group of people in Peru with DNA only elsewhere found in Turkey.
Turkey's a mountainous kinda place that people would run to in order to hide from invading Babylonians, plus it's right next to Pheonecia, where the best long-range ships were being built at the time, so instead of looking for parallel's between architectural styles of Egypt and the Mayans, they should be looking for answers as to why some Peruvians have DNA normally only found in Turkey... and why the Peruvians had the most advanced architecture but were paranoid about staying high in the mountains away from the locals around them, and why they had a huge city (under a lake now) loaded with temples and as big as anything built by the Mayan and Aztek, and why their obolisks contain a history of them having originally got there by moving up from the mouth of the Amazon... if that's what you're angling for.
