First of all Fusion is an extremely dangerous source of energy. It is hard to contain. I don't know if you are talking about fusion or fission. The only known source of fusion energy is in the sun.. Then again plasma could be used in fusion, but overall, i think MIT dropped their study because fusion is simply too dangerous.

The cost to run a plasma reactor is prohibitive . The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor was thought to be capable of overunity, bu the cost caused participates to drop out.

Your probably right about danger. A magnetic field contains a plasma with temperatures seven times the temperature of the sun, 100 million degrees Celsius.
