The major factors leading to severe poverty in Nicaragua are:

* Severe scarcity of skilled labor.

* By 1989, 40.000 new people were estimated to have enter the Nicaraguan labor force each year.

* Laxed enforcement of the country´s minimum wage, workers getting paid less than the law allows.

* By 1990, half of Nicaragua's work force was estimated to be unemployed or underemployed.

* Great percentage of Inadequate household.

* Demographics of the country, nearly half of all Nicaraguans are under 15 years of age.

* Incremental privatisation is reducing the services used and essentially excluding the poor who can least afford services through market provision.

* Future prospects for poverty reduction are increasingly being called into question by economic growth projections.

* Infant mortality is on the rise.

* Nation's external debt at US$6.6 billion is six times the size of its GDP.

* Economy is extremely dependent on external help to avert social, political and economic crisis.

* Natural resource exploitation has resulted in environmental damage and degradation

* Severe impacts of mining on the nation's ecosystems.

* Increase in sedimentation of bodies of water, thus diminishing the provision of water.

The question implies that income is a problem. That is the given fact. You need to increase your analysis by answering:

What factors are causing income to be low?
Why industries in Nicaragua have low wages? Is there an oversupply of labor?
