The Ancient Egyptians definitely watched the stars. In fact, there are small passages within the pyramids that line up with the Stars - Sirius (Queen's Chamber) and Orion (King's Chamber).

It is not known how they could be so accurate, however Richard Hoagland details how accurate the Ancient Egyptians were in all their placements of monuments, especially in Giza. Tetrahedral Geometry is the basis for an amazing amount of ancient construction... even in Great Britian and Mexico. See http://www.enterprisemission.com for details on that.
I'm reposting the image of the Egyptian Stargate here that dealt with how the Giza plateau is set up within the framework of the constellations forming a "Star Gate"

Was the star gate of Giza, a giant stellar Clock?
Why were the Egyptians watching the Constellation, if they didn't have the instruments to see the constellations? How did the Egyptians then know the constellations existed?

How do you explain the Egyptian accuracy in prediction the movement and existence of constellations they could not see or would not know about until the future?
