From Wikipedia, Ancient Egyptian Religion morphed and changed over time. Based on what I know of human nature, I'm sure there was a time when it got cold and they blamed it on Ra being unhappy. It's just a matter of time before they started blaming people, forcing worship, making sacrifices, and doing anything to make the sun come back.
