The other was to pair the kids up and give each a bar magnet, and have them play with pointing different ends of the magnets at each other's ends, to feel the force of attraction and repulsion in their hands depending on if it's same pole or opposite poles.that their pointing at each other.
They'll invent games like hiding which end they're pointing and then the other one has to guess and/or figure out whether they are pointing with the north end or the south end.
That was always more fun that having two bar magnets, one in each hand, and playing with the two magnets alone. It was still interesting playing alone... just not as much fun.

Laying a sheet of paper over a bar magnet and then sprinkling iron filings on it is always interesting to see... at least I thought so when I was a kid.
