It depends on your type of microscope. If you want to look at petri dishes you will need an inverted microscope.
Otherwise, what you need are glass microscope slides.

I recommend the plastic ones because the glass is usually too thick to use in a microscope.
Finally. You can buy agar agar instead of gelatin.
The good thing about agar agar is that you can melt it and use it again, unlike gelatin.

Playing with my microscope! I need to find out where I can get petri dishes so I can set up gelatin dishes. I'm such a nerd.
