How would the Egyptians know the position of Leo, 10,000 years in the past?

----quote----
Pliny wrote that the Egyptians worshipped the stars of Leo because the rise of their great river was coincident with the Sun's entrance among them. Distinct reference is made to Leo in an inscription of the walls of the Ramesseum at Thebes, which, like the Nile temples generally, was adorned with the animal's bristles, while on the planisphere of Dendera its figure is shown standing on an outstretched serpent. The Egyptian stellar Lion, however, comprised only a part of the modern constellation, and in the earliest records some of its stars were shown as a knife, whereas they now are as a sickle. Kircher gave its title there as Πιμεντεκεων, Cubitus Nili3source?.

The main reason why that the Egyptians would know the position of Leo is that they had astronomers who study the stars in order to predict when the Nile river would be flooded. Flooding of the Nile was very important, this enable the Egyptians to practice agriculture efficiently and effectively. The Egyptians worships gods who they believe where seen in the constellation and represented astronomical bodies. Astronomy was also used for building pyramids and other buildings. Is it possible to build a star map by conjecture and deduction?
No.
----quote----
Astronomy (from the Greek words astron (ἄστρον), "star" and -nomy from nomos (νόμος), "law") is the scientific study of celestial objects (such as stars, planets, comets, and galaxies) and phenomena that originate outside the Earth's atmosphere (such as the cosmic background radiation). It is concerned with the evolution, physics, chemistry, meteorology, and motion of celestial objects, as well as the formation and development of the universe.

----quote----
A conjecture is a proposition which is presumed to be real, true, or genuine, mostly based on inconclusive grounds. Karl Popper pioneered the use of the term "conjecture" in scientific philosophy. Conjecture is contrasted by hypothesis (hence theory, axiom, principle), which is a testable statement based on accepted grounds. In mathematics, a conjecture is an unproven proposition or theorem which appears correct.

The correlation between Leo constellation and the rise and fall of the Nile would have been a pseudo science. Perhaps, the Giza Pyramid correlation to Sirius, Orion, and the North star was loosely correlation with the pseudo science of the rise and fall of the Nile. Dsojer was the first Pharaoh to start a study of the cycles of the Nile.

Has any one done a study to see, if the Nile flood cycles closely correlated with the Leo cycles?
