You need to change the way your thinking of dimensions. Instead of trying envision it in your head as a graph, instead realize that each "dimension" is just a property of the object.

How can space-time have ten-dimensions? I only know X,Y,Z and t, four dimensions.
What do the extra six dimension describe? Why are they important to string theory?
