July 16, 1990 - There was an earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck central Luzon which was the largest earthquake in 1990 of a similar scale to the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.

August 1-7, 1990 - Steam was reported coming out of the volcano, though scientists only noticed small landslides and not much eruptive activity.

March 15, 1991 - A succession of earthquakes hit nearby towns and cities on the north western side of the volcano.

April 2, 1991 - The volcano awoke.
