The short answer is no. The best long distance runners in the world are from Kenya. Navajo runners are very good, probably for the same reasons as the Kenyans are good.
There are thought to be several reasons for this:
1. They are born and live at high altitude, where oxygen concentrations are low. So when they move to lower altitudes and get higher oxygen levels, they are super-charged.
2. Their life-style and culture require them to run all the time: perhaps 5 or 10 miles to school etc
3. There is social status from being a good runner
4. Running can be done without costly upfront fees.
5. There is a genetic element: the ratio of slow-twitch to fast-twitch muscles (unmyelinated vs myelinated) nerves is higher.
