I also think less of this Shane he is talking to for not reciprocating. I mean the obvious pecking order means you lose your job not Mr. Bale, but who cares. Is one job worth taking that kind of crap?
Christian Bale needed to be popped right in the mouth. Risk the assault charges.

But seriously, carterlee... shouldn't you have posted a warning because of the explicit language in this clip? For that matter, I wonder if it's even appropriate to post on Mahalo.

Items like this are misleading because you don't have the before and you don't have the after. He may have calmed down and worked to make up for his behavior. Or the DP's conduct could have been ridiculous and unprofessional. Context goes a long way.
I think it would take more than one incident to seriously affect my opinion of Bale.

Several factors are taking place here. Obviously this isn't the first time this has happened, as Christian Bale mentions in the audio. He likely asked the DP politely not to engage in this type of behavior the first time.
Second and most importantly, I don't know what kind of set McG was running here. But it was obviously loose and not appropriate. As a person who's been on movie sets, I know it's highly, highly unusual for any distracting movement to go on in an actor's sight line.
It is a BIG no, no.
I've seen production assistants scream at crew members for much less then walking in an actor's sight line.
What's also unusual here is that the director is not the one doing the yelling. Obviously, Christian Bale felt the need to lash out because his director was not creating a productive and artistically safe environment.
Third, this is a big movie which is laying squarely on Christian Bale's shoulders, he's obviously feeling pressure, which is especially infuriating if it's clear that everybody else on the film doesn't care as much as he does.
Lastly, this happens all the time on sets. It's unusual that this dirty laundry is being aired, I suspect it's because Christian is renown for being very nice in the industry.
Here's proof that this stuff happens all the time.

"Why so serious?" That was one very long tirade. It's ironic that Christian Bale speaks of "Shane's" unprofessional conduct while he continues to use profanities to browbeat the guy for several minutes. His conduct was not appropriate and I'm guessing that he upset a lot of other people on the set, too. So my answer would be yes - I do think less of Mr. Bale after hearing this. But seriously, carterlee... shouldn't you have posted a warning because of the explicit language in this clip? That's too bad. But if the asker didn't select a best answer and nobody clicked "Yes" to Helpful Answer on any of the answers, then I guess there is no best answer. In this case, it was fair.

Yeah, that would be an amazing response. I heard actors hate quotes from their movies spoken by "amateurs." It would have made him go over the edge.

I don't know that I think less of him, necessarily. Sometimes people go off. I would want people to cut me a break if I ever had an episode like that. I mean, sometimes, under the right circumstances, people sort of explode. That doesn't excuse his conduct and I don't mean it to sound that way -- but the man is human, so I can't say, "I now hate Christian Bale" because he had a stressed-out incident. Items like this are misleading because you don't have the before and you don't have the after. He may have calmed down and worked to make up for his behavior. I did a scene with him in a film called Metroland, many years ago. I spent a whole day with him and he was such a sweetheart then AND he spoke with a British accent then... I don't know what Hollywood's done to him but his fame has obviously gone to his head. I can't believe this is the same man. I have worked on many movies and people who behave like that are divas, and that's that. It's never justified to behave like he behaves. It can be frustrating when you are trying to do a scene and people don't respect it (I am an actress myself) but there are other ways of telling people. At the end of the day he is the one who looks stupid though. I feel sorry for him for being such a drama queen.

Yes, I think less of him. Chiefly because he is apparently and blissfully unaware of how blessed he is. He, after all, gets to play-act for a living (as opposed to finding a cure for cancer, etc.) and for this he is paid ridiculous sums of money and enjoys perks and priviledges denied to most people. It would seem he is the one who needs to shut the f**k up and get a reality check. An anger management class, or a good beat down, may benefit emensely.
