Would you sign the Anti-Rush Limbaugh petition?

Also, does anyone know where it is online so I can sign it as soon as possible?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My first response to the question was: I would and will not sign it. I can't stand Rush Limbough and my old boss used to listen to him everyday--(meaning I had to listen too). Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is America. If you don't like it don't listen and like the above commenter said, don't support his sponsors.

However---When I realized that the actual petition was to have him removed from the tax funded "American Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS)(formerly known as Armed Forces Radio)" and that "his program is broadcast for one hour per day to U.S. troops overseas," that frightened me. I wondered if they aired radio programs with opposing views? If so..then fine, as long as they are exposed to a variety of opinions, I would be fine with leaving it on-air.

As it turns out: AFRTS airs two "conservative" voices, Limbough and Sean Hannity and two "liberal" voices, Ed Schultz and Alan Colmes.

AFRTS says: "We make our choices based on popularity with the American audience. We don't censor programs. We strive to provide our overseas audience with a choice and let them decide for themselves what they want to see and hear. There is no requirement for our audience to listen to anything they personally disagree with."

Now that I know they air 'both' sides...I feel a 'bit' better, I still wouldn't sign it. But perhaps they can find a better 'liberal' voice than Alan Colmes? I'd sign that petition any day.

I wouldn't either. What is it called when we silence those we disagree with, and only allow one viewpoint to be spoken?

It's not democracy and has no place in a democratic republic like ours.

It's kind of like those who talk about tolerance--until someone disagrees with them.

No, I wouldn't.

As much as I despise the guy and bemoan the lack of available progressive talk in the area, I think he has a right to say whatever he wants to (however stupid it may be).

No. This is America, and people have the right to say whatever they want. Limbaugh has the right to want the President to fail. I don't agree with him, but I wouldn't be pleased if he tried to stop me from doing things because he had a different viewpoint.

Americans have a choice, and one of those choices is to turn off the radio. I'd rather focus on living my own life than keeping someone else from living theirs.

I do every day of my life by refusing to listen to his radio show and ignoring comments he makes. If he becomes very offensive, I will no longer support his advertisers--and make sure they are aware why I am doing so.

To me, you don't need a campaign to silence someone else. All you need to do is stop listening and encourage others to do the same.

While this might seem anti-free speech, I feel that people should have the right to say what they want. However, I do not have to support the venue in which they choose to do so. Rush wants to stand outside on the street and say what he wants, fine. But I will not pay or help support his ability to do so on the air.

If the petition was asking for anything but support for the opposing side, maybe. For instance, I was sympathetic to the petition asking that he be removed from Armed Forces Radio after a series of demonstrable - and in my opinion, damaging - lies. I don't want to pay for that and our Armed Forces deserve better than to be lied to.
The current petition does little but get him additional airtime. I won't sign it under those conditions.
