However---When I realized that the actual petition was to have him removed from the tax funded "American Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS)(formerly known as Armed Forces Radio)" and that "his program is broadcast for one hour per day to U.S. troops overseas," that frightened me. I wondered if they aired radio programs with opposing views? If so..then fine, as long as they are exposed to a variety of opinions, I would be fine with leaving it on-air.
As it turns out: AFRTS airs two "conservative" voices, Limbough and Sean Hannity and two "liberal" voices, Ed Schultz and Alan Colmes.
AFRTS says: "We make our choices based on popularity with the American audience. We don't censor programs. We strive to provide our overseas audience with a choice and let them decide for themselves what they want to see and hear. There is no requirement for our audience to listen to anything they personally disagree with."
Now that I know they air 'both' sides...I feel a 'bit' better, I still wouldn't sign it. But perhaps they can find a better 'liberal' voice than Alan Colmes? I'd sign that petition any day.

M$It's not democracy and has no place in a democratic republic like ours.
It's kind of like those who talk about tolerance--until someone disagrees with them.

M$As much as I despise the guy and bemoan the lack of available progressive talk in the area, I think he has a right to say whatever he wants to (however stupid it may be).

M$Americans have a choice, and one of those choices is to turn off the radio. I'd rather focus on living my own life than keeping someone else from living theirs.

M$To me, you don't need a campaign to silence someone else. All you need to do is stop listening and encourage others to do the same.
While this might seem anti-free speech, I feel that people should have the right to say what they want. However, I do not have to support the venue in which they choose to do so. Rush wants to stand outside on the street and say what he wants, fine. But I will not pay or help support his ability to do so on the air.

M$The current petition does little but get him additional airtime. I won't sign it under those conditions.
