Runners: what's a good run time for a beginner's 5k? What's your best time?

I ran a rough 5k this morning as I have built up enough stamina to make it the whole way running and came in at just under 34 minutes on a road that goes over a pretty big hill. What's a good start out time and what's your best so I can train to catch you?!! :)

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Get out your bike and pedal twice the distance. Uphill rides are the best if you can find a hilly road. This will build your endurance. Do sprints short spurts of 100 yards each. This will help you go through that second wall. Then get back to running and you will find it a whole lot easier.

Ran 7/17 a 29:24! And then caught a horrible virus. Ugh.

Primarily, I am a biker, biking to work and back at least three days out of the work week. It's ten miles door to door, so it's twenty miles in a day. What I'm looking for in an answer is the time it takes and how fast is your 5k time. Dig deeper. :)

I have a friend that is in pretty good shape (we trained together for a triathlon), and he recently just did a 5K in less than 20 minutes. I believe that would be a good goal to aim for, although remember that improvement is a gradual process. I myself am a horrible swimmer and runner as well, but I am still working hard at both to improve. Best of luck!

I run 5k in around 27 minutes. I think that anywhere under 30min is quite good if you're not an athlete or runner.
