Hamsters!
Hamsters make good pets, but they are not the right choice for everyone. Learn about the pros and cons of hamster as pets before deciding if a hamster will be the right pet for you. You will also need to consider whether you want a larger Syrian hamster (always keep one to a cage), smaller dwarf hamsters (can be kept together), or even the less common but still lovely Chinese hamster.
Apart from the initial expense of the cage and equipment hamsters are relatively cheap to keep and require less care than larger pets. However, as with any pet, keeping a hamster does require a commitment to caring for it during its lifetime, including veterinary treatment if it becomes ill.
Hamsters are best known for their cuteness and also for their sharp teeth. Although very easy to tame, they need special handling until they are tame. Initially you may need to use a hand-glove to pick up the hamster that bites (and is not completely tame). You should be careful not to stress or frighten him/her, as hamsters often start biting once they are under shock/stress or frightened. You will also have to learn how to hold your pet hamster without making him/her feel uncomfortable in your hands.

You can train them to use a littler box.

You can even train them to do tricks!

(don't think you can train a rat to be house trained, but they are cute too!)
Plus there are so many different types of bunnies out there (dwarf, long hair, etc)
When you purchase your bunny, you can always set up a Mahalo account for them. (human supervision is suggested!)

What is a cool rodent pet?
I want one that will live more than just a few years as death is always hard to deal with even in the smallest of creatures (some probably not the standard mouse or rat).
What are some cool rodents to have as a pet?
