What detergent is safe to use when cleaning a hamster cage?
I've read that I should only use certain soaps/anti-biotic cleaning agents when cleaning my hamster cage, but I haven't found any guidelines as to which detergents are ok, and which are not.
Bearing in mind that I live in South Africa, so I might not have access to your brands of detergents, what should I be looking for?

I highly recommend using vinegar and water. It is safe for the environment and your hamster. It will kill the germs and you just have to rinse well so the hamster doesn't smell it in his/her cage. And, it doesn't cost much at all! I use it on my rabbit litter boxes regularly as it breaks down urine and keeps urine from staining the boxes.
