The (quiet, spoken) lyrics to Foo Fighters "Everlong?"

The version on The Colour and The Shape album. At about 3 minutes into the song, the instrumentation becomes very sparse, just the guitar, and then it builds.

Under this part of the song, I can hear what sounds like a recorded telephone conversation, and lyrics. It's very quiet, and it's literally bugged me for years. This is one of my very favorite songs and it would be completely awesome if someone knew or could find the answer.

A source, or explanation of how you found out, is very much appreciated.

I have something you may be interested in! Through the magic of Rock Band, I was able to acquire the multitrack of the song and pull out the whispers. I believe this multitrack only contains 1 of the 3 sets of whispers, however.

The whispered lyrics are compiled from Dave Grohl reading out of a technical manual, describing his friend's apartment, and a story about a studio technician's father. Apparently Dave scrambled the three audio tracks together so as to distort what the listener hears.

The isolated whisper track that I have seems to be the story about the technician's father.

This is at least 1/3 of the mystery!

Here is what I believe it says:

"So dad would take the sunday's off
and that's the only time he could ever get any rest
and so if we were loud on sundays
he'd make us hold his construction suits over our head
till we'd sleep and they were really heavy
and it only had one sleeve
but we'd start crying because it's too heavy...so"

Enjoy!

During the instrumental break, three indecipherable tracks whispered by Grohl can be heard. The exact wordings are unknown, but according to the official Foo Fighters newsgroup FAQ, the source materials are a love letter, a technical manual, and a story about a studio technician's father. Grohl himself has only confirmed the use of the technical manual.

It's possible that one of the words is "Sundays" or "somedays"

Someone else thinks they hear "just go to sleep, go to sleep, can we just go to sleep?"

Sometimes in life we wander aimlessly,
Searching for a purpose, searching for ourselves.
And yet, sometimes in life, we are so oblivious to the obvious
Because everything is right in front of us
And we're missing the point of living
We're missing the point of living

And I wonder if everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when

I followed the video and looked at the lyrics. Here is what I found...
After the part where he sings: "and she sang" these lyrics follow, but he does not sing them (this is the last part, where I heard what you are describing):
Sometimes in life we wander aimlessly,
Searching for a purpose, searching for ourselves.
And yet, sometimes in life, we are so oblivious to the obvious
Because everything is right in front of us
And we're missing the point of living
We're missing the point of living
