I had never heard of them before and after listening to some of their stuff I'm still not sure what I think. Their songs are not too bad but the production on their recordings could use some work... I would like to hear them live to remove the below average recording value from my opinion of their work.

Grant Lee Phillips is just a guy, I dont know much about music production, but he is pretty big. His old band was Grant Lee Buffalo. He doesn't want to deal with corporate media so he has his own label, I don't know if that has anything to do with what is going on. But it's not lack of money. He tours with Amiee Mann and does the music for a lot t.v. shows (gilmore girls) and usually has a song on a couple of movie soundtracks a year.

Keep listening you will be hooked soon enough
