If you can, I would stop off in Strasburg in Pennsylvania and ride the steam engine railroad. I took my kids when they were younger and they loved it.
If you are interested in hiking, Bear Mountain in New York is a beautiful place.

Road Trip from Rockville MD to Cooperstown NY. Where should we stop along the way with 2 young kids? (hike?)
We are taking a road trip from Rockville MD to Cooperstown NY in early april (during spring break). We are taking our 1 and a half and 6 and a half year old children with us. We know pretty much what we're going to do in Cooperstown (but would like to hear any off beat ideas). Mostly we want a few ideas of places to stop along the way (it looks like we'll be going through harrisburg, wilksbarre and scranton and souther 88 in NY). We like to hike, go to interesting and local museums (and I like breweries and brewpubs ;).
