Is the Riot Girrrl movement still active, and if so, who are some current bands that are continuing the trend?

I'm a big fan of Sleater-Kinney and Bikini Kill, are there any current bands that are taking up the mantle from them?

Cool question!

It's not active in the sense of being what it was in the 90's, when a musical trend, a "'zine" subculture, and feminist-political attitude combined to make something unique and new. In other words, I don't know if you can still call it a defined community or a movement. But I think there are definitely groups that have continued on the lines of Sleater Kinney and others.

Kathleen Hanna, founder of Bikini Kill, is now in the group Le Tigre, which has more diverse musical influences than BK but has a similar perspective.

The Gossip puts a blues-punk spin on riot grrrl, and so do The Moaners. (These two are some of my favorites right now).

The Gossip are with the music label Kill Rock Stars, which was also Sleater Kinney's label. The label has a number of groups worth browsing. http://www.killrockstars.com/artists/

Some people also say that Erase Errata, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Peaches, or even The Donnas, are strongly influenced by them.
