(Feb. 13) -- Several media outlets -- mostly British tabloids (here and here) -- are reporting today that Rihanna wore an eyepatch during her November American Music Awards performance because of a scratched cornea that was possibly the result of abuse from boyfriend Chris Brown. Given this week's alleged assault charges, this story may have some merit, but let's investigate a bit.
Yes, Rihanna did indeed wear an eyepatch during her performance -- a bedazzled heart-shaped one at that. Does that mean she was covering an injury? We doubt it, as you can see in the photo below that as she entered the awards (right), her eye looks visibly fine. If she needed the eyepatch to protect/hide her injury while she performed, why not for everything else? We're staying very, very skeptical on this angle.
