The Fermi paradox has to do with how many stars and planets there are in the galaxy, yet we have not found any evidence of intelligent life. There are many possible explanations. Here are a few.
1. Life requires an extremely unlikely set of circumstances to arise. If the probability is sufficiently low, there would be no other life than that we find on Earth.
2. If you're religious, you believe life was created by G-d, in which case, if He only created it on Earth, no further explanation is needed.
3. The natural course of technology development is such that the probability is very high of sentience that almost any life that develops self-destructs fairly quickly.
4. The time between the development of sentient life is so long, and the distances so vast, that there simply aren't any others near enough to us for us to detect.
5. As proposed in several Sci Fi novels, there are hyper-xenophobic aliens out there who kill off any potential competitors as soon as those show themselves to have sufficiently high technology to be observable at Galactic distances.
