What is wrong with my car?

When I go to start my car it clicks 10-15 times before starting. Thinking it may be a bad battery, I had the battery replaced and the problem still exists. Once the car turns over it runs fine, though the Check Engine light is on. The car is a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue if that helps. Thanks in advance!

You didn't tell us how many miles the car has, so I'm just guessing.

Slow start problem: Most likely the Starter Solenoid. Unfortunately, is inside Starter.
Solution: Replace Starter. http://answers.edmunds.com/question-Bad-solenoid-bad-starter-2000-Olds-Intrigue-31845.aspx

Possible solution: Battery cable connected to starter. Look for corrosion, possible loose connection. Lake of voltage could also cause engine light. Check battery terminals.

If thats not it, check the the Fuel Pump (would cause both issues)
See Solution #1.

Possible fix for Fuel Pump could be as simple as changing the Fuel Filter:
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_is_the_fuel_filter_located_on_a_1999_Oldsmobile_Intrigue

I'd start out with the simple cheap things before you start dumping money into it.. Change the fuel filter, check the battery cables, check the cable connection at the starter.

Asker's Rating:
• I ended up taking it in for service and they replaced the camshaft sensor. This fixed the problem for the mile drive home. Unfortunately the next day the light turned back on and the problem occurred again. Going to have to take it back in today and see what they say. Thanks everyone for your help!

Maybe as simple as a starter problem or as complex as the engine. The easiest way to fix it before it gets worse is by taking it into a reputable mechanic shop.

I would say it is either the starter not kicking over right away or the starter solenoid. I would say if it is clicking then the problem is probably between from the solenoid to (and including) the starter. I would start then making sure all the wires are secure.

Here's my guess:

Distributor cap.

http://automechanics.wordpress.com/2008/09/13/car-maintenance-101-checking-your-rotor-and-distributor-cap/

Distributor caps don't last forever and the symptoms that you describe could be a result of a cracked or loose distributor cap.

The good news, if this is it... Distributor caps aren't all that expensive and are usually replaceable with only a little bit of time and trouble.

When my starter went out, that's what happened for a couple days before it just died. I know for sure when that "Check engine" light goes on you're not supposed to drive your car any further than to a mechanic. You could spend a LOT more money by waiting so go ASAP.
