I don't drink, doctor said red wine will help me. Don't know where to start. Want small samples might not like

They only cost $1.99, so if you end up not liking it, you aren't out very much. I would probably go with the Merlot, as that is one of the sweeter, less harsh wines.

Without knowing where you live, I suggest you do a search for a store that sells wine and offers tastings (Raleys and BevMo in Northern CA do this). If you live near a wine producing area, go to wineries that offer free/no cost tastings of their products. Tell them your situation at the tasting bar - I've found pourers more than helpful. This will help you discover what you like at little to no cost.
When I offer non-red-wine drinking guests a glass at home, I generally pour one of C.G. diArie's Zinfandels or Barberas. The alcohol flavor doesn't dominate in any of these, and they generally get favorable reviews. They run between $20 and $35 per bottle. Attached are labels. Good luck
