Reborn Babies: Do you think that these 'dolls' are adorable or eerie?

They are a new assortment of cute, cuddly, breathing babies and some people are concerned that they might be just a little too authentic and lifelike. What do you think?

I guess it would depend on why they are called “reborn” babies. Reborn would indicate to me that you have lost a young child or baby once and now have to opportunity to have it recreated through this doll manufacturing company. I truly hope this is not the main message behind this creation (and it does not appear to be from what I take away from the advertisement). Otherwise, the baby dolls do look life-like and they are very cute additions to doll collectors existing collections I bet. Of course, they would likely make a beautiful and unique gift as well to any young child if they could be created to look like the baby him/herself. Who would not enjoy having a doll Doppelganger version of him/herself? It is a nice keepsake for sure and if they could make the doll look very similar to the actual child, then I can see the value in the for doll lovers. However, I am still wondering about the overall message of these dolls? Are we trying to keep our children young forever with these dolls who can pose a daily reminder of our little ones during their earliest days (even if they do not precisely resemble our own children). Would the strong resemblance to a real baby evoke any feelings towards the doll in us (for example, we take extra steps to protect the life-like doll from harm, or we consistently comment on how cute he/she is, etc.)? I think as long as we don’t confuse this doll with the actual baby or forget that it is in fact “just a doll” we should be okay with this revised version of doll ownership.

Creepy! But I also think real human babies are creepy too.

Yes. They are eerily creepy to be exact. But I never like life-like dolls. I preferred stuffed animals when I was a kid. it's eyes... it's like staring at you straight in the eye. *shudder*

And the name too, "Reborn". What does it mean? I agree with dtrivera that the name sounds like you've lost your child or something.

they do look like new born babies. I think they are very cute and I think i would purchase one for my granddaughter without too much hesitation. The only concern I might have is the breathing. Once I hear it might creep me out.

These life-like dolls are most popular among women who can no longer bear children, or who have never bore children. Owning a doll that feels real in their arms gives them that temporary fulfillment of becoming a first-time mother. There is controversy over this, as some may argue that this practice is delusional, and simply causes a woman to turn away from reality instead of facing the fact that she can't bear children.
