It's over-commercialization, and tacky. The things he did on the show will probably more harm his potential career then help it.

On this application...

http://thebachelor.warnerbros.com/

They have pretty strict rules about who can be a contestant, such as (obviously!) being single. You're supposed to be on the show with the honest intention to find a caring relationship... not brag that you were the first contestant to make it to the Top 4 Bachelors while still having a girlfriend on the side.

Does any one suspect that the casting directors of The Bachelors are not doing as good of screening as they used to? A quality control problem here?

Or is it more possible that these "bad boys" and "bad girls" from recent shows are purposely chosen as contestants to stir up some ratings-boosting drama? :)

Isn't that the main reason people go on reality shows?

So-called "reality" shows aren't really real. They are extremely artificial, have writers and editors, and most everyone who goes on these shows knows that you've got to "play the game" in order to get ahead.

The Bachelor/Bachelorette has produced only one lasting couple--Trista and Ryan--in its 7 years on the air. Abysmal odds for a show purported to "find true love."

I think that Hayden is simply being overt and explicit about what a lot of people do a little more subtly.

As to whether or not his exposure on The Bachelorette will help his career, it may get more people looking at his music, but the quality of his music will gain him fans. If he's good, it will help. If he's mediocre or worse, it won't.
