Do you think people that have already been discovered should have a chance on American Idol?

Joanna Pacitti and Carly Smithson a.k.a Carly Hennessy both had prior recording contracts and yet the show is promoting undiscovered talent.

No.I thought the point of the show is to find new talent. Simon Cowell says the show is "like a race." I would think that allowing people with recording contracts in is a bit like giving them a head start.

I don't think people who had prior major label recording contracts should be allowed as Idol contestants.  If they just tried to sell and promote their own music in the past, that would be OK.

I have to agree with the above answers. I thought the premise of the show was to find new talent, not to bring up people we already didn't want to buy albums from. They've already been groomed and styled, whereas the people with raw talent might lag behind until they get a bit of training under their belts. I think that any prospective Idol should be automatically disqualified if they have ever had a major record label. Then that brings up a whole other argument, what about indie labels and minor labels? Enquiring minds want to know!

It would not be a bad idea to have a new show called "American Idol Discovered" for those who are Internet celebrities. It would be interesting to see a show that featured all the Internet Idols, or those who do things like karaoke online. There is a lot of interest in these people, so I'm sure the ratings would be high. Some of these musicians do not have recording contracts.

I totally agree with the first three people. I always thought the show was to find undiscovered talent. These people that have had contracts should not be allowed to participate at all!
