Quad-core vs single core
What the difference between Quadcore processor and regular type processor? I have a AMD Phenom(tm) 9550 Quad-Core Processor, current speed 2.21 GHz and 6 GB ram. A friend has a 3.2 AMD processor with 1 GB ram. Why is my computer faster?
I'm not complaining just trying to understand the differences.

I already mention the latest and fastest part of Quad core, but I haven't explain how come... here it is.

Single core processors can process user/machine-task(s) at the same time or you can say multitasking. However, it always comes to the point where it hangs or worse crash because of users overloading them with tasks. Machine/program task can also make your PC slow down, one great example of this is Vista OS. Vista is reputable in running programs that users didn't even execute or run, and even if you already closed the program, some of them are still running in the background which makes the PC slower and slower.

Quad Core Processors are not so new technology but still is a hit than single cores. It works faster because it has four processors combined. So when you feel like overloading your PC with different programs running all at the same time, this is the processor you should use. Of course, it comes with other hardware compatible specs.

M$The reason your computer is faster could be complicated. The fact that you have 6 GB of RAM compared to your friend's 1 GB is quite possibly a factor. Almost every piece of hardware in your computer (processor, RAM, hard drive, motherboard, video card, etc.) will have some effect on the overall performance of the machine.
To answer your core question (pun intended, forgive me): a quad-core processor is actually four processors on one chip. This allows some software to split up its processing load among the separate cores for greater efficiency. And of course that would result in faster performance.

M$I have a Single Core Pentium 4 Processor clocked at 3.6GHz and it runs the likes of Half Life 2, F.E.A.R. and Quake 4 smooth as silk on max settings at 1280*1024...
