From everything I have read about this illness which is also called Fifth disease and has the yucky sounding medical term of Parvovirus B19, it is not a deadly virus but an annoying one.

Even though is has the word "parvo" it is not the same type of virus that is found in cats and dogs. This cannot be spread to animals, and the animal version cannot be spread to humans.

It is contagious and spreads like a cold. It is more common in children, but adults can get it too. Most adults have already been infected and have an immunity.

Medic8.com has many questions and answers related to this illness.

Bunny, great answer. I had 5th disease as an adult, several years ago. As with most typical childhood illnesses contracted in adulthood, it has worse effects on an adult. It was not so bad at first, but then it went into my joints and caused serious arthritis-like pain, luckily that was cleared with a round of steroids, and did not leave any permanent problems. So it is not deadly, but no fun either.

I'm sorry you had to go through that @librarian.
I did see on that link that there were more 'complications' and issues with getting it as an adult.
I'm glad you're better now!
