I'm not afraid of the water, what I'm afraid of is deep water like pools, beaches...
Way back when I was 5 years old, me and my brother were about to go swimming somewhere in our neighborhood before. We were at the side of the 5 feet pool when my brother pushed me... he's just 4 that time, perhaps he doesn't know what he's doing. I was less than 4 feet those time and I can't swim so there's no way I could get out of the water.
Fortunately, someone pulled me out of the water. I almost lost consciousness that time. I couldn't forget that memory until now. This is the reason why I'm scared of deep waters when I was a kid.
I could've died right away that time... good thing someone else was on the pool or else, there's no fallen_angel21 answering this question now. lol XD

I've been concerned about deep water at times, but, I always move past my fear by recognizing that there's really nothing to fear (but fear itself), it is HIGHLY unlikely that anything "bad" will happen, and I'm taking away from the time I could be having fun.
Psychologically, what works well is systematic desensitization. I'm not going into the procedure here, but... it's been a long, old way of dealing with phobias... and it works!

I do not think I got over it. I just learned to accept that there are things that you cannot control.

Essentially growing up in Hawaii (I'm 7th generation from Hawaii, but not actually Hawaiian), I've always been around the water. It's in my blood... I've been concerned about deep water at times, but, I always move past my fear by recognizing that there's really nothing to fear (but fear itself), it is HIGHLY unlikely that anything "bad" will happen, and I'm taking away from the time I could be having fun.

The only time I was afraid of water when I was a kid, was around hurricane season. I grew up in the Caribbean, so we had different hurricanes every year. I was afraid of water during hurricane season because when it rain the river will grow so much that it will destroy houses and many people died during these natural disasters. I do not think I got over it. I just learned to accept that there are things that you cannot control.
