Manic means "hyper"
Bi-polar means serious mood swings between hyper and very depressed.
Bi (two) poles that are opposite.
A maniac means "crazy person".
Which just isn't a nice thing to say. So I won't say it.

hi. I see what you mean. Yes, in the "old days", they used to say people were "crazy". Now we're all crazy and it's a compliment! :) There is also a lot of confusion between "Multiple personality disorder" and "schizoprenia".
