mySQL, is it possible to compact the db?

I have a 25 meg mySQL database that runs fairly quickly on my laptop, but running the same code on the server take about 6x longer? I was wondering what I should be looking at?

I've created the same indexes?

Have you had the opportunity to measure the performance directly at the server, eliminating the network delays? If the slow down is definitely at the server, you want to look at what other processes you are competing with for cpu, memory and disk access. It is possible your little database got stuck on a busy drive or one that is severely fragmented, or that the server is just so busy your process is competing for run-time.
