Private Messages between WordPress Users
I am setting up a website with Prologue (http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2009/03/11/p2-the-new-prologue/). I really like it, but I would also like to have a way for the members to send private messages to each other.
How can I setup this functionality? Would people be able to block people they do no want to receive private messages from?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Since private messaging is not a built-in feature of Prologue, there are basically two paths to getting this feature enabled:
1. Suggest (beg, cajole, entreat) the WP-core team that's working on Prologue to add PM functionality (might work if enough people ask for it, but expect to wait).
2. Download and fork the theme (or hire someone to do same), enabling the feature yourself. From my experience with WordPress themes and plug-ins, this would be a relatively simple addition.
3. Build a standalone Private Messaging plug-in that could be used alongside P2 -- that way users who use P2 "out of the box" could opt to add PMs without diverging from the Prologue version path. It looks like there are a handful of WP plug-ins that enable some form of private messaging -- though some of them bring along other features (community, boards, etc) that you may not be interested in, so it could be cleaner to start from scratch: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=private+message
